Hi all,

I have heard that magnesium is good for tics - is this true? I looked in our local chemist's - but they only had adult doses unless we wanted a multi vitamin tablet which i suspect wouldnt give nearly enough coverage. Can anyone tell me what sort of doses i should give him? He is 11.Are there any other natural supplements that help with tics? I have read about nicotine patches and botox etc - but not sure this is something that should be given to a child. Thanks for any...

Hello,
My son is 11 and i suspect he has tourettes. He has been throat clearing and sniffing since he was about 7. Now he has started to roll his eyes and stretch his neck muscles. He also 'shrugs' his shoulders. The gp sent him to the ENT specialist who found nothing wrong. Where do we go from here? Thanks for any replies.

I never really had a problem with tics until I was 11 years old. At that age I started motor tics, such as whole body movements (swaying, jumping), and hand flapping and head knodding, as well as vocal tics like repeating my own words. Nowadays I am better. I do not have complex vocal tics, I just make clicking sounds when I am exceted. As well, I will have tics in my legs, back, neck, face and head knodding.

Hi there, I'm new to these forums.

It has been suggested, logically, to me that I have tourettes, although it is unconfirmed. Let me give you some background:

Hello all, I'm back again. Feels like home. I always know I can come here for some good advice.
We're sooo confused. Here's our family background. We have:

15 yof w/TS and OCD on topamax
13 yof w/ADD just diagnosed
10 yom w/TS and suspected ADD- just starting diagnosis process- on topamax (was on clonidine)
7 yof

Our daughter needs an RX for the ADD and of course a stimulant was suggested. However, all of them say to use with caution...

I've noticed some talk of this Music & TS connection. One great solace I have is engaging my mind with playing music be it my guitars, mandolins, banjos.. something about the mental workings of doing that seem to mitigate the TS impulses. My wife pointed that out to me one day; she's my second marrage, the first simply admonished me for having "bad habits that I could control" yeah right. Well my son had a 1st dx a yr ago in nov. Taking him to a psychiatrist for a 2nd opinion this wk.
The 1st dr. said he would grow out of it. And that he also had ADHD & ODD. I sort of don't agree w/ that part. I was glad he would grow out of it. Recently his head nods or jerks have changed to a side jerk combo. Before I would notice it couple X's a day. Now it is constant. Any Med recommendations?

Tourettes: I swear I can't help it, is being broadcast tomorrow night at 9pm, looks like it shows a lot of corprolalia so maybe the usual media hype as opposed to the HBO documentary, more realistic type, but worth a watch anyway just to see!

my son is 22 and was dx with autism when he was 2. The touretts dx is more recently. I can't help wondering if he has that due to some of the meds he was on for the autism.
We have tried everything to control the tics. But sometimes I wonder if it is a tic or a autism stim.
Can one get touretts from various meds, like zoloft which he was on from many years. Currently he is on Risperidal, and zyprexa as well, as more recently inderal. He is also on many supplements for the...

Hi all. Thought I'd post a thread and see if anyone has experienced similar actions. I am currently in the process of buying my first home. It has been nerve racking for the past few months. As we approach our closing date, my tics have been off the charts. My entire upper body twitches, my arms flop like a fish to were I get muscle cramps in my pecs area. "Left one" and my head twitches so hard it almost feels like my brain rattles. It gives me the biggest headaches....

It has been a while since I posted and there have been a few new developments. We have a diagnosis from a pediatric neurologist of TS and was referred by the ped neuro to a pediatric psychologist. During our visit my son was very quiet and kept saying he was tired (his way of not participating) at first then began to interact during the last half of the appointment. My son was brought to a room and was instructed to take a test on the computer. This test was to help identify if he has ADHD....
