I never really had a problem with tics until I was 11 years old. At that age I started motor tics, such as whole body movements (swaying, jumping), and hand flapping and head knodding, as well as vocal tics like repeating my own words. Nowadays I am better. I do not have complex vocal tics, I just make clicking sounds when I am exceted. As well, I will have tics in my legs, back, neck, face and head knodding.

My son was diagnosed with Tourettes by the age of 7. He is now ten and for the last 2 years has also suffered Migraines. But about three months ago, the frequency of the mirgraines has increased dramatically to about 2-3 a week. I haven't posted for a while. It's like we have been having a break from TS! Our son (10) has been on Clonidine for about a year and a half and his tics have been really mild. He has had a very happy and positive year. But starting the new school year this September has brought us lots of problems. His tics have increased, but that we can all handle. Hello all, I'm back again. Feels like home. I always know I can come here for some good advice.
We're sooo confused. Here's our family background. We have:

15 yof w/TS and OCD on topamax
13 yof w/ADD just diagnosed
10 yom w/TS and suspected ADD- just starting diagnosis process- on topamax (was on clonidine)
7 yof

Our daughter needs an RX for the ADD and of course a stimulant was suggested. However, all of them say to use with caution...

Music & TS

I've noticed some talk of this Music & TS connection. One great solace I have is engaging my mind with playing music be it my guitars, mandolins, banjos.. something about the mental workings of doing that seem to mitigate the TS impulses. My wife pointed that out to me one day; she's my second marrage, the first simply admonished me for having "bad habits that I could control" yeah right. My name is Ryann (pronounced like Ryan... I guess my parents wanted a boy, LOL!), I live in MD. I have two daughter, the one who has Tourettes is 7 years old (then I have a 4 year old who stutters). Hi! We have an appt to see the ped neurologist in the next few weeks as we have clued into our 7y son's tics for the past 3 months. I've read up quite a bit but still have questions that I think other parents might be able to answer just as well as the neurologist. So far we have not noticed any "plus" items (no OCD, anxiety, etc.) and the tics do not seem to bother him.
